Since September 2006, I am working at the
Institute of Computer Science III at the
university of Bonn where I founded together with Volker Steinhage the
Intelligent Vision
Systems Group.

My main research interest is in cognitive computer vision. That means
I am interested in investigating concepts of the human visual system
and in exploiting and adapting these mechanisms for artificial
computer vision systems. Especially, I am interested in visual
attention, a mechanism in the human brain which selects the visual
parts of the environment which are of current interest and guides our
gaze. If your gaze is immediately attracted by a black swan among many
white ones, your visual attention system was involved. In my research,
I investigate how to simulate such concepts computationally and how to
exploit these mechanisms for intelligent vision systems, especially on
mobile robots and hand-held cameras. Find more about my research on my
research page.
