I am heading the Cognitive Vision Group
at the Institute of Computer Science III at the
university of Bonn. It is part of the
Intelligent Vision
Systems Group
that I founded together with Volker Steinhage.

In our research on cognitive computer vision, we
are interested in investigating concepts of the human visual system
and in exploiting and adapting these mechanisms for artificial
computer vision systems. A special interest is
in visual
attention, a mechanism in the human brain which selects the visual
parts of the environment that are of current interest and guides our
gaze. If your gaze is immediately attracted by a black swan among many
white ones, your visual attention system was involved. We investigate how to simulate such concepts computationally and how to
exploit these mechanisms for intelligent vision systems, especially on
mobile robots and hand-held cameras. Find more about our research on my
research page.
